Swaps and Substitutions:
- Swap out any of the fruits for more of what you like or replace them with dried cranberries, apricots, cherries, or prunes.
- If you prefer a saltier mix, replace the honey-roasted nuts with dry or salted ones. You can also use unsalted nuts to reduce the sodium in this recipe.
- Flavored mixed nuts or dried fruits with added seasoning, like chile-limon or wasabi-soy, will add more flavor to your trail mix.
- Optional Add-ins: 1 cup chocolate-covered candies, kettle potato chips, pretzels, yogurt-covered raisins, or granola clusters.
Tips and Techniques:
- Cutting the dried fruits into bite-size pieces (about an inch) makes it easier to pack and eat.
- If you're making this on a hot day, chill the Mini Medjools for 20-30 minutes to make cutting them easier.
Storage Instructions:
- Store trail mix in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat for 3 weeks.
